Billericay ExRay XC combines 2 spray nozzle technologies

An extended-range spray nozzle tip design from Billericay Farm Services (Bfs) covers a range of outputs that typically would require switching between 3 different nozzles.

The ExRay XC combines 2 spray nozzle technologies – air induction to reduce pressure within the tip and produce a coarser spray output for low drift off the target, and a pre-orifice of variable size determined by pressure.

There are vertical and 30-deg angled versions, both supplied as complete assemblies of 3 component parts plus a standard ISO 8mm cap to fit any body that accepts nozzle filters. The ExRay XC valve and cap assembly replaces the standard cap seal and the tip is fitted into the cap in the normal way.

Extended range low-drift air induction nozzles from Bfs offer a wide volume range from a single spray tip while maintaining low spray drift characteristics.

Extended range low-drift air induction nozzles from Bfs offer a wide volume range from a single spray tip while maintaining low spray drift characteristics.

Each assembly features an extra pre-orifice made from a material said to respond in linear fashion to the liquid pressure applied to it. Increasing pressure therefore brings about a corresponding increase in volume flow, which Bfs says can be exploited to cater for significant variation in sprayer forward speed – such as in fields with relatively flat areas and sloping ground.

90% drift reduction

The air induction element of the tip’s design maintains its low-drift characteristics, which are said to reduce drift by up to 90% in comparison with a standard flat fan nozzle under the same circumstances.

Pre-production units are currently in field trials with users in anticipation of full commercial availability in 2019, when the manufacturer envisages a range of 9 sizes with ISO identification from 01 (orange) to 06 (grey).
