A special tyre for beet-sowing should prevent loss of yield. OBO Tyres in Hardenberg, part of the Magna Tyres Group, developed a special tyre together with the Dutch contractor Van Kempen in Vierlingsbeek.

To reduce the amount of adhering soil when digging, new beet varieties grow more above the than in the ground, according to OBO Tyres. Problem is that beets that are sown in the row next to the tractor track, are therefore more sensitive to fall when harvested. Until now, 2 narrow tyres were mounted next to each other which resulted in deep tracks where the harvesting combination had driven.

As an alternative to the narrow tyres, OBO Tyres took the carcass of a 900/50 R42 tyre on which 2 strips of rubber, each 35 cm wide, were built in several layers for a wide and even bearing surface. In the middle of the tyre there is a gap of 15 cm. With this gap the soil in the row to be sown is not being pressed. In this way there is minimal soil compaction. OBO Tyres built 2 strips of rubber, each 35 cm wide, on the carcass of a 900/50 R42 in several layers. Exactly the solution the beet grower was looking for to maximise his crop yields.
