Kverneland Turbo T cultivators now have an optional Isobus control function, which automises depth and levelling.

The option is called i-Tiller. According to Kverneland, the Turbo T i-Tiller option is designed to get the best results in the least amount of time and against the lowest costs. Settings for depth and levelling can now be controlled from inside the cabin of the tractor, using the Isobus terminal and smart software.

The cultivator is able to level itself. All the operator needs to do, is choose the correct working depth in centimeters (with a maximum of 20 cm) on the terminal.

Sensors on the hydraulic cylinders

The cultivator then automatically adjusts the position of the drawbar and the rollers, in order for the cultivator to be levelled and working at the correct depth. The hydraulic cylinders are equipped with sensors, so the machine knows the exact position of the cylinders and is able to adjust their position. The operator does not have to leave his cabin to check if the cultivator is levelled.

Drag force

The drag force is being measured using 2 sensors between the main frame and the drawbar. The terminal tells the operator how much force is being used to pull the cultivator and will warn the operator when too much drag force is being applied. If the operator does not take action, the cultivator will lift itself.

The software will also do this when the operator is taking a very tight turn. The sensors measure the difference in drag force left and right in order to do so.

Depending on soil conditions, the working depth on front and back can be adjusted during the tillage process at any time.

Lower fuel consumption

The software also regulates the pressure applied to the drawbar, and transfers weight to the tractor’s rear axle. This ensures better traction, grip and lower fuel consumption. The software does the same going up or down a hill; it makes sure the cultivator always maintains the correct working depth.

The Turbo T has been available for 2 years now, with working widths of 6.5 or 8 meter. Prices start at € 47.650. For the i-Tiller optional software Kverneland charges 15 to 20% extra.

Kverneland is developing the same smart software for the 3 meter carried cultivators. The difficulty here is that the levelling is being adjusted using the top link.
