SoilCares, a provider of information services for smart farming and so far focussing on managing and monitoring soil fertility, as of now also provides services to measure nutrients in feed and leaf.
To match its new service portfolio, the Dutch company changes its name from SoilCares to AgroCares.

It says all AgroCares’ nutrient analysis services and applications are delivered using the same in-house developed sensor and database technology consisting of a Scanner, a handheld sensor device and Lab-in-a-Box (LIAB), a customised set of equipment using MIR and XRF sensors. The LIAB is designed as the affordable substitute for a traditional wet chemistry lab laboratory.
Analysing soil fertility using a handheld NIR scanner
Right from its founding in 2013, SoilCares started analysing soil fertility in Kenya using a small, inexpensive handheld NIR scanner and a profound in-house developed global soil type database. Over the years, SoilCares has extended its service offerings to more than 20 countries, with clients ranging from organisations working with smallholder farmers in Ivory Coast, large retailers in Myanmar to large agro holdings in Ukraine.

Analyse feed and leaf nutrients
The next milestone is to also offer smart farming services to analyse feed and leaf nutrients under the name AgroCares. CEO Henri Hekman: “With AgroCares we can now offer a full package of agricultural services to measure nutrients in soil, feed and leaf.”
The option to provide advice on fertiliser application or feed management can also be added to the services. Depending on the apps in use, you pay an annual license fee for an unlimited number of scans.
The true intelligence behind AgroCares’ services are its global databases and the algorithms it employs to generate agronomical information data, reports and recommendations. For soil it uses an in-house developed Global Soil Database, for feed the database of Trouw Nutrition, one of its strategic partners. The leaf database is also an AgroCares development and being launched.
