The Norwegian machinery manufacturer Kverneland is now supplying the so-called Geoforce system for its pneumatic Optima seed drills. The system features automatic pressure regulation for each individual seeding row.

Kverneland developed the Geoforce system for its Optima F and TFprofi precision seed drills. According to the manufacturer, the system ensures a constant and accurate sowing depth, regardless of soil conditions or working speed. This helps seeds germinate and emerge uniformly. It is expected to result in higher yields, particularly for small seeds such as oilseed rape, beet and chicory.

Maintaining consistent sowing depth

The Geoforce system maintains a consistent sowing depth by applying a preset pressure to the depth wheel. A sensor measures the resistance on the depth wheel. Based on that data, a hydraulic cylinder automatically adjusts the pressure. This ensures the sowing depth remains consistent.

Each seeding row is monitored individually and automatically adjusted while driving. It is also possible to switch off one or more rows entirely, for example at headlands, in wedges, or when creating tramline

Optionally available

At present, the Geoforce system is only available for the SX seeding rows of the Optima F and TFprofi-precision drills. The additional cost per row, compared to the standard mechanical spring adjustment, is €2,240 ($2.541,25).

In the future, the system will also become available for other models and row units. Other options currently available are: a single spring with mechanical adjustment, or a hydraulic cylinder that increases or decreases the pressure on all rows of the machine simultaneously.
