John Deere has now made it possible to load data from external parties in its crop management system.
John Deere has added a new function in its crop management system called Operations Center. Using the new tool, called More Tools, users can upload data from external parties in the system. It kind of works like an app store, where the farmer can choose from different optional solutions by external providers.
As before, the farmer uses Operations Center as the central platform to manage the operational procedures and send data to the machines. With the new tool he can now also process data from external sources and import those in Operations Center, such as data from drones, weather stations and application maps.
That way, the new software ‘building blocks’ form a valuable addition to the already known solutions John Deere My Operations offers (maps, field management etcetera.)

In his daily operations, the farmer now can adapt Operations Center to his needs, by personalising the system and expanding its functions. At the same time, he has full control over his data by exchanging it between Operations Center and the various connected software companies. Controlling the data can be done manually or by giving consent whilst setting up an automatic data reconciliation.
When it comes to data transfer, the farmer profits from the open structure the system provides, claims John Deere. As of now, over 20 software companies in over 29 countries in Western and Central Europa and Russia are connected. Wordwide over 100 providers are connected, says John Deere.
In order to offer customers even more functions in the future, John Deere will annually hold so-called Developer Conferences, where it gathers with companies providing all sorts of services to farmers, from software to maps and consultation. The first conference was held in November 2018, with 40 participants. The goal of these conferences is to jointly supply farmers using John Deere crop management with more tools in the future.
