For the second year in a row, Future Farming is calling out to manufacturers of technology – kits – to upgrade existing tractors to autonomous tractors. Do you offer such technology in 2022?

Installing a kit to upgrade your existing tractor to an autonomous tractor might be a great way to take automation a step or maybe even a leap forward. The technology enables you to take the driver off the tractor when allowed and where possible, while still being able to drive the tractor to the next field manually. It also enables you to hold on to existing tractors without having to invest in the newest tractor models and still step up technology wise.

Especially now, with severe price increases and extremely long delivery times for new kit. In fact, some believe that upgrading existing tractors to autonomous tractors might be preferred by farmers over investing in multipurpose field robots.

Expanding existing catalogue

In 2021, Future Farming compiled its first buying guide, with six different autonomous retrofit kits:

  1. Blue White Robotics
  2. Braun Maschinenbau
  3. GOtrack
  4. GPX Solutions
  5. Sabanto
  6. ThornTek

For the second edition of the catalogue, the existing version will be updated and expanded with missing systems and manufacturers. The 6 manufacturers that are already in the catalogue, will receive a message from us to update technical specifications ands prices.

Autonomous

For the record, with autonomous we mean that the vehicle can perform its work completely independently and autonomously after the operator gave all the necessary instructions and settings. The autonomous tractor should in principle be able to execute the same type of work and operations a standard tractor with a driver does. We are not targeting autosteer, auto guidance or autopilot systems or kits that ‘only’ take over the vehicle steering from the driver and no other functions such as hitch and PTO control and obstacle detection.
