Machinery manufacturer John Deere introduces a new self-propelled sprayer: the 500R. Depending on the model, this sprayer has a tank capacity of 4,000 or 5,000 litres and a working width of 30 or 36 metres.
The new 500R sprayer is equipped with almost the same cab as the X9 series combine. With this cab, the sprayer is now also fitted with the Command Pro control lever and the 5G+ monitor. In addition, the cab is pressurised and features category 4 air filtration.
According to John Deere, the cab has been designed to give the operator better visibility of the boom during operation. But the cab is not the only feature the sprayer borrows from other machines. The 500R is also fitted with the same engine used in the John Deere 6R250 tractor, the spraying technology from the R900i trailed sprayer, and the suspension system of the American self-propelled sprayers.
The 500R sprayer has an unladen weight of almost 14 tonnes and a maximum road speed of 50 km/h. The machine also features a hydraulically adjustable track width of 1.80 to 2.50 metres and a ground clearance of 1.20 metres.
The 285 hp engine powers a hydrostatic pump and transmission. This single pump independently drives the four wheel motors. According to John Deere, this provides greater stability and traction both in the field and on the road.
