Bredal XE spreader: Avoid excessive overlaps on headlands

The Danish manufacturer produces a range of trailed spreaders from 3-20 tonne capacity, using rear-mounted discs designed specifically for spreading fertiliser – typically up to 36m (1417.32in) wide – or materials such as lime, basic slag and other powder materials.

On the new XE models, the regular disc spreading assembly is replaced by a wide-spaced configuration comprising 2 large diameter 70cm (2755.91in) spreading discs positioned 6m (236.22in) apart.

The new Bredal XE bulk spreaders have large diameter discs spaced 6m (236.22 in) apart to achieve wider spreading with light powdered materials such as lime and basic slag.

Each disc is fed by a short lateral belt from the floor conveyor in the hopper and the use of hydraulic drive – instead of the belt drive used on other Bredal spreaders – enables spreading width to be determined by disc speed and down-chute adjustment.

Bredal says this new configuration enables the XE spreaders to broadcast lime to 30m (1181.1in) using 4-vane discs and granular fertiliser to 48m (1889.76in) using a 6-vane design.

This results in more productive work rates and the ability to remain on wider-spaced tramlines, including controlled traffic layouts that concentrate soil compaction along permanent wheelways.

Material is fed to the discs by lateral conveyors; adjustable feed-on and disc speed fine tunes the spreading width.

The 2 discs rotate towards the centre to build the required application rate in four layers to help mitigate any variations in the spread pattern and the left- or right-hand disc speed is adjusted for headland spreading to deliver a level distribution with a sharp cut-off to the field border.

Control of all functions is by isobus data communication through a compliant universal terminal, which automatically sets the machine once the product bulk density, application rate and spread width have been entered.

The XE’s software is isobus Section Control ready for auto on/off at headlands and variable rate ready for use with prescription maps.
