UK fruit growers now have direct access to RootWave’s tractor-powered electrical weeding technology, following a new distribution agreement with specialist supplier Kirkland UK.

The partnership covers RootWave’s eWeeding machines designed for orchards, vineyards, and bush fruit. The system uses electricity to boil weeds and their roots, offering effective, non-chemical weed control that leaves the soil undisturbed. This makes it compatible with conventional, organic, and regenerative farming systems.

Non-chemical, root-level weed control

RootWave’s technology delivers a highly targeted approach by killing weeds from the root up. The company says this results in lower overall weed control costs, while also reducing herbicide use and supporting soil health and biodiversity.

Tom Archer, Head of Sales & Marketing at RootWave, said the agreement ensures UK fruit growers “receive a top-class product and excellent aftersales service” from a supplier with deep roots in the sector. Kirkland UK Managing Director Scott Worsley added that the solution “integrates seamlessly into orchard and vineyard systems” and meets the growing demand for sustainable practices.

Wider move toward eWeeding technology

This announcement follows RootWave’s earlier collaboration with Garford Farm Machinery to develop an in-row electrical weeding system for arable crops, as reported by Future Farming in RootWave and Garford join forces to develop eWeeding technology. Together, these developments show how eWeeding is moving beyond trials and into commercial-scale applications for both perennial and annual crops.

With tightening herbicide regulations and increasing organic production, interest in alternative weed control methods is rising globally. Electrical weeding offers the potential to control weeds year-round, without weather restrictions, and without damaging crop roots.
