John Deere has acquired the American technology company Sentera. Sentera is a specialist in remote sensing technology for agriculture.

Through the acquisition of Sentera, American machinery manufacturer John Deere aims to strengthen its position in precision agriculture. Sentera is a US-based technology company that focuses on precision farming through advanced remote sensing solutions, in other words, the collection of information from a distance using sensors or satellites.

Sentera develops software, sensors and artificial intelligence technologies that support farmers in monitoring crops and detecting diseases in crops. Sentera’s cameras are compatible with most popular drones.

Reduced input waste

Drones equipped with advanced technology fly at high speed over agricultural fields and capture high-resolution images. Using Sentera’s software application FieldAgent these images are converted into maps that precisely indicate the location of weeds. This allows farmers to determine exactly where crop protection products are needed, reducing the waste of inputs and benefitting the environment.

From drone to tractor

After processing, the maps are automatically transferred to compatible agricultural machines via the John Deere Operations Center. They can then be used immediately in the field.

Sentera employs nearly 120 people worldwide, with offices in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and North America.
