Forage additive application made easy via tablet app

Hay and forage preservative applicators from US manufacturer Harvest Tec have joined a growing collection of implements that can be operated using a purpose-designed App on an Apple iPad tablet.

Harvest Tec says the iPad option provides a lower cost alternative to a purpose-made controller – as well as greater functionality – in the absence of an Isobus terminal.

Bluetooth is used to connect the iPad to the applicator’s electronic control unit, enabling the user to operate and monitor Harvest Tec’s Automatic Applicator 400 for round and conventional balers, and the 600 for large square balers.

No additional cabling is needed in the tractor cab and software updates can quickly be downloaded and installed, Harvest Tec adds.

The iPad (running iOS 8.01 or higher) can also be used to access web-based data, such as weather forecasts, and store customer records in the case of contractor users.
