During a recent field robot demonstration in the Netherlands, machinery dealer Abemec and robot contractor Doorgrond showcased a remarkable innovation: the AgroIntelli Robotti 150D equipped with an advanced camera system for precise hoeing and plant counting.
In collaboration with Doorgrond and machinery maker Wifo, the Robotti was equipped with a camera-guided sideshift and a modified Steketee hoeing bar. This unique system utilizes advanced camera imaging and detection technology to effectively remove weeds and accurately count plants.
The DSD-Z 300 Smartshift, featuring support wheels on the Steketee hoeing machine, offers a 30 cm stroke and utilizes a camera from Tillett and Hague Technology for steering. The camera, mounted on a long tube, allows it to view the crop row. Using various shades of green or an RGB color profile, the technology distinguishes plants from weeds, enabling precision hoeing up to a centimeter from the plants.

Although the demonstrated combination consists of existing components and machines, there is something remarkable about it. It is utilized in the European Robs4Crops project. To achieve this, the Robotti work platform is equipped with an additional camera at the front and another at the rear to count the present crop plants. This provides insight into the results of the hoeing process (or any other operation). In a way, the cameras act as the eyes of the operator of a manned hoeing combination.
