French machinery manufacturer Kuhn has announced its plans to launch their Karl field robot at Agritechnica 2023, scheduled to take place from November 12th to 18th in Germany.
During a press conference at the company’s headquarters at Saverne, Kuhn CEO Thierry Krier described the Karl field robot as much more than just a robot. “The current version is complete,” stated Krier, emphasizing that the product is not simply an autonomous tractor. “We are equipment manufacturers, and Karl has been born from it. It represents the final piece of a solution that we believe is suitable for the European market,” added Krier.
Although Kuhn provided only a partial image of the machine named Karl, the company showcased its commitment to innovation and progress in the field of agriculture. The autonomous solution is expected to feature tracks for traction and likely operate on electric power.
After seven years of testing and evaluating four generations of prototypes, Kuhn believes that the Karl robot is ready for market deployment. Krier also emphasized the importance of combining multiple operations into a single pass, suggesting that it represents the future of agricultural machinery. Additionally, he noted the need for lighter equipment to improve soil quality, acknowledging that labor shortages pose significant challenges for many farmers.
These concepts fuel speculation that the Karl field robot is a multifunctional product that may bear resemblance to platforms like the AgXeed. Kuhn has already gained experience and technology in the realm of robot machines through its Aura autonomous feed mixer, which is already being sold in France.
